Angola's Diamond Heartland — 3,000 km² of Exceptional Discovery
Lulo is developed through a strategic partnership between Lucapa Diamond Company, Angola's national diamond company Endiama EP, and local Angolan partner Rosas & Petalas — uniting technical expertise, government partnership, and local stakeholder alignment to unlock one of the world's most remarkable diamond concessions.
Lucapa is the operating diamond company and brings technical, operational, and exploration capability to the Lulo partnership, with a focus on developing Angola's high-value diamond potential.
Endiama EP is Angola's state-owned national diamond company and a key strategic partner in the Lulo projects. Endiama represents the Angolan government's long-term participation in the country's diamond sector.
Rosas & Petalas is the Angolan private-sector partner in the Lulo joint venture, supporting the local partnership structure and stakeholder alignment in Angola.
Lulo lies in Angola's diamond heartland of Lunda Norte, 630km east of the capital, Luanda. While the total Lulo concession spans a vast 3,000 km², the commercial alluvial mining licence covers a specific 1,500 km² area, representing one of the world's most prolific alluvial diamond fields and commanding the highest price per carat globally.
Commercial production commenced in January 2015 through the alluvial mining company Sociedade Mineira Do Lulo (SML). Mining operations are actively carried out along a 50-kilometre stretch of the Cacuilo River, utilising heavy excavators, haul trucks, and a 1.1 million tonne per annum processing plant. This facility features advanced XRT diamond recovery technology, capable of recovering exceptional large diamonds up to 1,100 carats.
The largest recorded diamonds in Angola's history have all been found at Lulo. The mine regularly produces large, premium Type IIa diamonds and is a prolific source of special-sized and fancy coloured stones.
"4th February Stone"
The largest diamond ever recovered in Angola's history. Recovered at Lulo in February 2016, it remains a testament to the extraordinary potential of the concession.
White Diamond
A stunning 227 carat white diamond, one of Angola's most remarkable recent discoveries, recovered from Lulo's alluvial mining operations.
"The Lulo Rose"
A rare 170 carat pink coloured diamond — one of the world's finest fancy colour diamonds ever recorded — recovered from the Lulo concession.

Excavators and haul trucks mine surface deposits of gravel, sand, and clay along the floodplains (leziria) and terrace deposits of the Cacuilo River. The leziria areas are accessible during summer months when rainfall conditions allow.
Mined material is processed through a 1.1 million tonne per annum facility equipped with XRT (X-Ray Transmission) diamond recovery technology, capable of recovering individual diamonds up to 1,100 carats.
Lulo commands the highest price per carat for alluvial diamonds in the world, producing an exceptional proportion of special-sized stones (over 10.8 carats) and fancy coloured diamonds in hues of pink and yellow.
The Lulo Kimberlite Exploration program is one of the diamond industry's most prospective. Exploration has been active in Angola for more than 15 years, with the primary sources for the large, high-value alluvial diamonds mined at Lulo yet to be fully discovered.
More than 560 geophysical anomalies have been identified across the concession, most of which have proven to be kimberlite when drilled. In 2022, a Kimberlite Bulk Sampling Plant was commissioned at Lulo to expedite the sampling programme.
Nineteen of the kimberlites sampled to date have proven to be diamondiferous, most notably kimberlite L164.

Anomalies in the Cacuilo River Valley — upstream of active alluvial mining
Kimberlites discovered from anomalies drilled
Kimberlites processed through bulk sampling programme
Kimberlites confirmed diamondiferous from sampling results
Most Significant Discovery
Kimberlite L164 is the most significant of the diamondiferous kimberlites identified to date, demonstrating the substantial economic potential of the kimberlite exploration programme in the Cacuilo River Valley.
More than 47 diamonds exceeding 100 carats have been recovered from the Lulo alluvial project since commercial production began in 2015.
The Lulo project is underpinned by a strategic alliance between its three joint venture partners, combining operational expertise, sovereign participation, and local stakeholder representation.
